Terms of Service
By creating a StudyDeck account or using the StudyDeck application in any way, you agree to these Terms.
1. The service
StudyDeck is a study-card application (the “Service”) for teachers, parents and the students they support. The Service is operated by StudyDeck, a sole proprietorship registered in India (the “Operator”, “we”).
The Service is delivered as a hosted application:
- Hosted web app — at studydeck.online/app, behind Google sign-in. Installable as a PWA on desktop and mobile.
- Parent phone companion — at
/m/parent, for picking study material and pushing a session to a kid's screen. - Kid kiosk — at
/web, a no-login surface that only shows the session a parent pushed to it.
The previously offered downloadable single-file edition with offline license keys was retired in April 2026; all customers now use the hosted Service.
2. Eligibility
- You must be at least 13 years old to create your own StudyDeck account.
- If you are a teacher or parent, you may enrol students under 13 only with verifiable parental consent (see our Privacy Policy).
- You must have legal authority to bind the organisation you sign up on behalf of.
3. Subscriptions and billing
Tiers
- Student — a single learner studying for themselves.
- Parent (Lite / Standard / Plus) — a household; student count and AI credits scale with the sub-tier.
- Private Teacher (Lite / Standard / Plus) — a single tutor or coaching teacher.
- School — multi-teacher organisation (sales-led).
- Chain — multiple schools under one administration (sales-led).
Tier limits and prices are listed at /#pricing and are configurable from our admin panel; the figures shown at the moment of purchase apply to that subscription. A one-time 14-day free trial is available per Google account.
Payment
- We accept payment via Razorpay and direct bank / UPI transfer. Additional gateways may be enabled over time; the options shown at checkout are authoritative.
- Subscription prices are displayed and charged in USD by default.
- Card details are processed by the gateway; we do not see card numbers.
- For bank transfer, your subscription is activated after we verify the deposit (typically within 1 business day).
- Where Indian GST applies (INR payments), invoices show
GSTIN,HSN/SAC 998434, and the tax breakdown.
Renewals and plan changes
- StudyDeck subscriptions do not auto-renew. A plan runs until its expiry date; to continue, you purchase a new term. The app shows a banner when 7 or fewer days remain.
- Upgrades take effect immediately: buying a higher plan starts a fresh term at the new plan's price. Terms are not prorated.
- Downgrades within a plan family are free and scheduled: you keep your current plan until it expires, and your next purchase defaults to the lower plan.
- AI credit top-ups can be purchased at /buy-credits at any time; top-up credits persist until used.
4. Refunds
Refunds are governed by our Refund Policy. In short: 7-day no-questions refund on a first-time purchase; pro-rated on cancellation of an annual plan within 30 days; nothing afterwards.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service to harm, harass, or violate the privacy of any person.
- Upload illegal, infringing, or sexually explicit content involving minors. (We co-operate fully with NCMEC, the Indian Cyber Crime portal, and equivalent authorities.)
- Attempt to bypass tier limits, share licenses across organisations, or run automated scrapers against the Service.
- Use the Service to train your own AI models on student data.
- Resell or sublicense the Service without a written agreement.
6. Your content
- You retain ownership of the content you upload (cards, notes, vocab, mind maps, source material).
- You grant us a limited licence to store, process and display the content solely for the purpose of providing the Service to you.
- We do not train AI models on your content.
- You're responsible for having the right to upload anything you upload (e.g. don't paste copyrighted textbook chapters you don't own).
7. AI features
AI features run through our managed provider pool by default, metered in credits included with your plan. Private Teacher plans may additionally use their own provider API keys (BYOK). When you use AI features:
- Monthly plan credits reset each billing month and do not roll over; purchased top-up credits persist until used.
- Managed-pool requests are processed through our servers and logged as described in the Privacy Policy; BYOK requests go directly from your browser to the provider.
- The content you submit is sent to the AI provider; their terms apply to that processing.
- AI output is generated on a best-effort basis. You're responsible for reviewing AI-generated cards / quizzes / notes for accuracy before sharing them with students.
- Managed-pool credits are non-refundable once consumed.
8. Service availability
- We aim for 99.5% uptime on the hosted Service measured monthly. Schools on a Chain agreement can negotiate stricter SLA terms.
- The Service is online-first: an active session tolerates brief connectivity blips, but loading the app requires reaching our servers.
- Scheduled maintenance is announced via in-app banner ≥48h in advance where possible.
9. Suspension and termination
- We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or our Acceptable Use clauses.
- Egregious abuse (CSAM, harassment, fraud) is suspended immediately and may be reported to law enforcement.
- Routine abuse (e.g. exceeding signup-rate or AI-call rate thresholds) is suspended pending review; you'll receive an email with how to appeal.
- If you cancel, your data is retained per our Privacy Policy (default 365 days post-cancel) before being archived and purged.
10. Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law:
- The Service is provided “as is” without warranties of merchantability, fitness, or non-infringement.
- Our total liability for any claim arising out of these Terms or the Service is capped at the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim.
- We are not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages, or for loss of data caused by user error, browser bugs, or third-party platforms outside our control.
11. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of India. Disputes are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Bengaluru, Karnataka. Nothing here removes any non-waivable consumer rights you may have under your local law.
12. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. Material changes are announced in-app at least 30 days before they take effect. Continued use after the effective date is acceptance of the updated Terms. If you don't accept, you can cancel and request a refund per the Refund Policy.
